These are the initial interviews with Andrea, Randi, Laurie and Kiki. In them, we talk about how old each person was when they first started smoking and how their habit developed. We talk about family issues, such as how their parents feel about their smoking, and how they feel about their children smoking. We also investigate how smoking glamour in the mass media may have influenced their decision to try smoking, which brand to smoke, associations between smoking and sexual attraction and their assessments of possible health risks. Altogether, we spend about 30 minutes with Andrea, then 30 minutes with Randi and Laurie, followed by an hour with Kiki.
Andrea is your ultimate Black Smoking Godess. With a soft, breathy whisper she commands your undivided attention as she toys with her silky smooth cigarette smoke. Be prepared to serve. It takes her three days just to do her nails and makeup, not to mention her hair, before she goes out. But she's worth it.
Randi is one of the few women that we have interviewed who was actually encouraged by adults to smoke at an early age. She says that she started smoking when she was 10 years old, when the wife of a friend of her father gave her a cigar to smoke at a poker game.
Laurie says that she started smoking cigarettes when she was 13, but now hates everything about it but feels hopelessly addicted, so she can never quit, even if it kills her.
Kiki, on the other hand, who started at 12, loves smoking cigarettes and it really shows in her style. With ten second inhales, luxurious French inhales, snap inhales, pop inhales, double and triple exhales, Kiki loves high glamour and style. She makes excellent eye contact and loves to watch your reaction as she teases you with her smoke. Because of her style and glamour, we had Kiki conduct many of our other interviews.
